The Police Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday arrested 72 suspects across the country for various degrees of crimes ranging from kidnapping, murder, stealing cars, being part of criminal groups, having illegal guns, selling guns, and other illegal activities.
The police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja, adding that the arrests were made in the past two weeks.
Adejobi mentioned that 34 of the suspects were arrested for supposedly kidnapping people. As a result, 22 kidnapped individuals were saved and brought back to their families.
He cited that they found 10 sets of military-style uniforms, 10 camel packs, 12 military hats, three cardigans, three T-shirts, two belts, and three anklets in the possession of the suspects.
Adejobi added that they also found six AK-47 rifles, two submachine guns (SMGs), one homemade AK-47 rifle, a revolver, 290 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, four AK-47 magazines, and two SMG magazines.
Additionally, they recovered two pump-action rifles, a traditional Dane gun, two Volkswagen Golf cars, bags with various illegal drugs, N2.2 million in cash, and other harmful weapons from the suspects.
Adejobi added that based on reliable information, the police team searched and captured a suspect for having illegal firearms in Kaduna during the same period.
