Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta State and vice presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, claims that religious and ethnic emotions were to blame for Peter Obi’s overwhelming victory in the February 25 election in response to the outcome of the disputed presidential election, the Delta governor made this statement on Monday in Asaba.
Obi triumphed in the states of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Anambra in the southeast. He also won in Okowa’s state of Delta, as well as the states of Cross River and Edo.
Speaking on Monday, Okowa stated, “Obi’s resounding victory in the South-South and South-East was the result of numerous circumstances.
“The agitation that the Presidency should come to the southern part of the country, religion and Igbo presidency are key factors.
“The Obidient movement is a movement that swept across the South-South and South-East. The people wanted Obi as a change. They believe it is the turn of South-East. I believe that people have exercised their rights in a democratic process but INEC did not follow the Electoral Act.”
