Two Nigerian males were apprehended by the Indian police in Delhi for allegedly posing as British citizens to defraud a number of ladies through online matrimonial services.
According to the authorities, the suspects used the app to entice women by pretending to be rich IT professionals and marine engineers.
The suspects, named as Alex and Ibeh, allegedly requested money from their victims under the guise of paying Customs duties for gifts, according to The Indian Express on Sunday.
Under the pretext of giving and receiving gifts, Alex and Ibeh, who are 30 and 45 years old, have been cheating on women for months.
The issue came to light after a 24-year-old resident of the President Estate neighborhood claimed to have lost Rs 4 lakh, according to The Indian Express.
The woman informed us she met a man named Aman Arora on a marriage website, according to a senior police officer. He claimed to be a British marine. The man informed her he was traveling to Mumbai to meet her when they first spoke on WhatsApp.
