Prince Adeniran, who spoke to journalists and publishers in an interactive session on Friday night, said the NBS is the only agency with the mandate to study, gather data, and issue such figures to aid the government in planning.
He emphasized that the NBS has the capacity and expertise to collect and analyze data using internationally recognized methods and standards, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the statistics produced.
Furthermore, Prince Adeniran assured Nigerians that the NBS is committed to providing timely and relevant data to support evidence-based policy-making and promote accountability and transparency in governance.
Prince Adeniran said that his office is the only one authorized to publish statistics on the state of the economy, not just forecast or publish forecasts, citing a recent study by KPMG that found Nigeria’s unemployment rate at over 40%.
