A report on Monday shows that about 20 civilians were massacred Sunday by the militiamen in Ituri, a gold-rich province in the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to primary information gathered on Monday by the UN and civil society.
The Spokesman of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in New York that the Codeco militia had killed at least 20 civilians burned several houses and damaged medical facilities in a series of attacks on villages in Djugu territory.
Codeco militia is the militia association of several thousand men who claim to defend the Lendu tribe from the Hema tribe and the national army in Ituri.
