In Oke-Ako, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, there were tears, gnashing of teeth, and lamenting as a two-hour heavy downpour on Friday evening demolished more than 105 buildings and left numerous residents homeless.
A complete blackout for the town’s people resulted from the destruction of several energy facilities in its wake.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed his condolences to the locals during a visit to the devastated area on Saturday and gave them the assurance that the government will support the victims.
Oyebanji, through his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, assessed the extent of the damage to the town on-the-spot and classified it as extremely catastrophic.
