The Federal Government has given the union permission to use Eagle Square for the 2023 May Day, also known as Workers’ Day, after revoking their prior license to do so.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment’s Olajide Oshundun, Director of Press and Public Relations, released a statement on behalf of Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, reaffirming the Nigeria Labour Congress’ (NLC) right to use Eagle Square Abuja for the annual May Day parade in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, May 1.
All invited guests, including the President, Vice President, Ministers, Ministerial delegations, and international partners, were urged by the Minister to make every effort to attend the event at the venue, which is still sacred.
The assurance followed media reports that the Federal Government, acting through the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), had revoked the permit granted to the NLC to use Eagle Square for this year’s May Day celebration due to concerns about preparing the location for President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29.
