The police departments residing in Malawi have arrested two women in their mid 20’s for banknote cake. The two women used kwacha bank notes as decorations for a cake they had baked and posted it on social media.
The police said the culprits were accused of “damaging and unlawful use of currency”.
Police in Blantyre is keeping in custody two cake bakers identified as Tumpale Ghambi, 24, and Sibongire Kaira aged 25 on the allegation that they decorated a cake using K500 bank notes amounting to K35,000.
A police spokesman said the two women posted the image of the cake decorated with 70 500-kwacha notes – worth $35 (£28) on social media as they advertised their cake-making business.
Malawi Central bank declares that the bank incurs huge costs of printing new banknotes, to replace worn-out ones and blamed improper use of banknotes as one of the causes.
