According to WHO, the death toll announced on Tuesday surpassed the largest recorded outbreak which killed 968 people between 2001 and 2002.
Chiponda urged people to be extra careful when handling people who died from cholera because outbreaks usually follow such feasts prepared by people who wash dead.
Cholera says that people should use proper decontamination procedures with chlorine and plastic body bags.
