In spite of deteriorating relations between the two nations, China Defense Minister Li Shangfu is scheduled to attend a significant security summit conference in India.
On Thursday and Friday in the Indian city of Delhi, Mr. Li will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) defense ministers’ meeting.
Since a deadly military encounter in 2020, a Chinese defense minister has not previously visited India.
Four Chinese and at least 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
Since then, the two sides have engaged in more altercations, with the most recent one occurring in December near Tawang in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
