The Council of Ulamas situated in Kano in a statement dated Saturday and signed by its members has called the President to remain silent in the political altercation that’s being witnessed in Kano currently as a result of the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II the Emir of the State.
The group warned the President against exercising his federal power in the State political crisis saying the President should allow Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to handle the situation.
The Ulamas expressed concern the issues could escalate and turn the State into anarchy should the president make a move to interfere in the situation.
The Ulamas argued that, despite the complexity of the politics of Kano, the State has maintained relative peace for years and any uncalculated moves could destroy the peace and order enjoyed in the State.
“Kano State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria despite its political complexity. The recent happenings in the Emirate if not carefully handled could escalate and degenerate into chaos. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must take all necessary steps to maintain peace in the State.
“Mr. President as the leader of the nation should not allow the contest for a royal stool to degenerate to violence. We are calling on Mr. President to allow the people of Kano State to resolve these issues amicably without the use of any force and loss of life”, the statement reads.
Earlier today, the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero arrived in Kano at 4:30 am with the Deputy Governor of the State accusing the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu of abetting the deposed Emir in returning to the State.
