The Kano State Ulamas Islamic Clerics group has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and address the Kano Emirship dispute before it escalates into chaos in the state.
The group is recognized as the central authority of prominent Islamic Clerics in the state, overseeing religious, cultural, and political matters that impact the state.
Shaykh Abdullahi Uwais Limanci and 19 others, in a statement, urged the President to enable the people of Kano State to resolve the issues peacefully, without resorting to force or loss of lives.
The Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker RT. Hon. Jibrin Falgore on Thursday announced the dethronement of the five Emirs and the abolishment of the five Emirates during a special session.
The Assembly passed the Kano Emirates Council law (repeal bill) 2024, nullifying the previous law, and all offices established under it have been dissolved.
The law governing the Kano Emirate was amended after the deposition of the previous emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, on March 9, 2020.
The amended law states that the chairman of the council shall be the emir of the Kano Emirate.
