It is no longer a surprise that the People’s Democratic Party’s nominee for governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, was declared the victor of the March 18th governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday, March 20, 2023.
According to the Returning Officer, Professor Idris Amali, Mutfwang received 525,299 votes, beating out Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 481,370 votes, as his nearest competitor.
The State erupted in celebration as soon as the results were made public. A diverse mass of revelers filled the streets from the cities to the villages.
The joyful expressions on many people’s faces proclaimed that Plateau had also won the election, in addition to Mutfwang.
On that Monday, the residents of the Jos/Bukuru metropolis and the surrounding areas took to the streets in open vans, cars, tricycles, motorcycles, and some by walking great distances, beating drums, chanting victory songs, and dancing along the main roads and streets in celebration. This was before converging at the Langfield event center in Jos where the Governor-elect gave his acceptance speech.
