Crypto platforms witnessed a surge in hacking incidents during June, despite the market being in a bearish phase. Data from PeckShield indicates that hackers stole $176.2 million from these platforms in June, which marks a 54.2% decrease from the $574.6 million stolen in May.
According to data, April marked the lowest number of hacks this year, amounting to $60.19 million. According to X, the blockchain security company, the total crypto lost to hackers this year has now exceeded $1.5 billion.
The biggest hack occurred at the Turkish crypto trading platform BtcTurk, totaling $100.25 million. According to a crypto news report on June 22, the platform’s hot wallets were compromised, allowing attackers to breach at least 10 different cryptocurrencies.
Furthermore, the second-largest hack last month was at the British crypto exchange Lykke, where hackers stole more than $22 million from the company.
UwU Lend, Holograph, and Velocore ranked among the top five with losses of $19.4 million, $14.4 million, and $6.8 million to hackers in June, respectively.
According to a report by Immunefi, the cryptocurrency ecosystem suffered losses totaling $572.7 million from hacks and scams in Q2 of this year, with 72 fraudulent incidents recorded over the past three months.
