Police personnel on patrol along Ngbo-Effium Road in the Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State have reportedly been targeted in an attack by individuals suspected to be gunmen.
The information was disclosed to the journalists in Abakaliki on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ebonyi Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu. He stated that the attackers carried out their operation using an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna without a registration number.
According to Ukandu, the law enforcement agents entered into a fierce gunfight with the criminals, leading to the tragic death of one officer. Meanwhile, the second officer is presently undergoing medical care at a hospital.
The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated that in response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Ebonyi Command, Augustina Ogbodo, swiftly dispatched tactical teams from the command to the crime scene to pursue and arrest the criminals.
According to the account provided by Ukandu, on Thursday around 11:00 a.m., the law enforcement operatives of the Command who were conducting a patrol along the road were subjected to an armed attack by individuals described as hoodlums.
