On Wednesday morning, a gunman opened fire at the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon the motive of the attacker remains unknown.
This information was disclosed by the Lebanese army who confirmed the incident, saying the attack led to casualties from both sides.
The assailant is identified as a Syrian national and is currently under medical attention as he was wounded during the exchange of fire with the army.
The report also indicated that a member of the embassy security team also suffered a casualty during the face-off.
The US Embassy in Beirut confirmed the incident, stressing that the embassy’s facility and team are safe.
“Investigations are underway and we are in close contact with host country law enforcement,” the embassy added.
