It was reported yesterday night that around 300 former Niger Delta agitators had infiltrated Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory ahead of a planned protest.
Once Maj-Gen Barry Tariye Ndiomu (retd.) was named the Temporary Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, a source said they will take to the streets to protest the termination of their monthly N65,000 stipends.
The first, second, and third phases of the PAP made up the large influx of the former agitators.
“The Niger Delta ex-agitators have vowed to occupy the nation’s capital for a long term protest if the government does not replace Ndiomu with a Niger Deltan who understands the plight of the people of the region, especially the ex-agitators,” the source said.
Additional requests included the reinstatement of the training programs, both academic and non-academic, and the immediate suspension of the PAP’s planned cooperatives.
