Elon Musk claims that Tesla would continue to thrive even if he was abducted by aliens or returned to my home planet.’
However, he stated at Tesla’s 2022 Cyber Roundup that he intends to stay as long as he can be useful. Musk was responding to a stockholder’s question about the company’s succession plans. Elon Musk has no plans to leave Tesla but believes the company will continue to thrive without him.
“We have a very talented team here. So I think Tesla, you know, would continue to do very well even if I was kidnapped by aliens, or went back to my home planet,” the Tesla CEO said at the firm’s 2022 Cyber roundup meeting of stock owners.
He was responding to a question from Future Fund managing partner Gary Black, a stockholder, about how Tesla’s board might handle his succession.
Musk is embroiled in a legal battle over his decision to withdraw from a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, and Black wanted to know how he would divide his time if a judge ordered him to take over the social media giant.
Musk stated that Tesla is gaining traction and has a “very exciting” product roadmap that will last a long time.
“I intend to stay with Tesla as long as I can be useful,” Musk said, adding that he thought he could be most useful with the company’s product design and manufacturing parts. During the nearly two-hour presentation, Musk revealed that the company had produced its three millionth car.
He stated that thanks to the Tesla team’s efforts, the company had already reached a production run rate of 1.5 million vehicles this year, and was on track to reach 2 million by the end of 2022. Musk hopes to build 20 million cars per year by 2030.
“I’m very excited about the future of the company and I think it’s got a very bright future, even without me,” Musk said. “I’m not leaving, to be clear.”
The world’s richest man has previously joked that Mars is his home planet. He’s frequently expressed his desire for humanity to become a multi-planetary species.
And, he expects SpaceX, the rocket company he founded, to play a significant role in this.
