According to the antiquities ministry, archaeologists have discovered a statue that resembles a sphinx and the ruins of a shrine in an ancient temple in southern Egypt.
One of Egypt’s most well-preserved ancient sites, the Hathor Temple, is where the artifacts were discovered.
Claudius, the Roman Emperor, is supposed to be the “smiley face and two dimples” of the limestone sphinx.
Compared to the 20 m (66 ft) tall, well-known Sphinx in the Giza Pyramids, it is much smaller.
The artifacts were discovered in a two-level tomb in the Dendera Temple in Qena Province, which is located 450 kilometers (280 miles) south of Cairo.
