Guillaume Pousaz, the billionaire founder of European payments startup Checkout.com, has taken a philanthropic initiative by setting up a charitable foundation named “Pousaz Philanthropies” with his wife, Laure Pousaz. The foundation’s primary aim is to support “quality and safe education” for children. Notably, it has already joined forces with various education non-profits, including Khan Academy and Global School Leaders, as well as the Center for Global Development and Christopher Chandler’s Luminos Fund.
Pousaz Philanthropies, based in the tax haven of Jersey in the Channel Islands, has appointed Sameer Sampat as its executive director, a co-founder of Global School Leaders.
Additionally, the foundation benefits from strategic guidance provided by Rebecca Goldman and Catherine St-Laurent, who co-founded Acora Partners, a philanthropic advisory firm. Prior to this, Goldman held significant roles at Time’s Up and filmmaker JJ Abrams’ family foundation, while St-Laurent served as the chief of staff for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and worked at Melinda-French Gates’ philanthropic investment firm, Pivotal.
This philanthropic endeavor comes shortly after Checkout.com’s successful fundraising of $230 million in January 2021, which marked one of Europe’s largest ever Series A rounds. Guillaume Pousaz’s commitment to education and social impact highlights his dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of children and communities around the world.
