According to reports, the Islamic State of the West African Province has kidnapped two Family Health International security guards and three humanitarian workers in Borno State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency journal specializing in the Lake Chad region, the terrorists raided the NGO’s guest house “in a silent operation at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, and whisked them away to an unknown destination.”
The non-profit human development organization FHI 360 is based in the US and is committed to enhancing people’s health and well-being.
The publication also noted that since the news of the kidnapping spread, the organization has not released an official statement.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, numerous humanitarian workers were killed, injured, or kidnapped in North-East Nigeria in 2022.
The UN secretary-general, António Guterres, said in a video message that those who commit their lives to helping others reflect “the best in humanity.”
