How the National Assembly leadership will emerge after the gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections is one of the main obstacles facing the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The party instructed its members to put less emphasis on the National Assembly leadership problem and more emphasis on winning the governorship and House of Assembly elections during the first meeting with lawmakers-elect held on March 13. Adamu Abdullahi, the party’s national chairman, urged the newly elected parliamentarians to work for the party’s success in the governorship elections.
Members-elect have the right to run for office, but they shouldn’t stoke divisions inside the party, according to the APC chairman.
He stated, “People have the right to struggle for positions of leadership for which they believe they are eminently qualified.
“But we, in the national working committee of the party, are not comfortable with the tone adopted by those who seek those offices. Those offices are not tribal or sectional rights and must not be so portrayed.
“Leadership positions at the national level is a delicate matter and must not be approached with levity or lack of seriousness.
