Amnesty International, a human rights organization, demanded the release of two academics and two journalists who are now being held in Moroccan prisons after Morocco allegedly denied them access to books and other reading material.
Amnesty International said that this amounted to a violation of their right to freedom of expression in a statement, which Moroccan officials refuted on Thursday.
Amnesty International’s Rawya Rageh stated on Wednesday that depriving journalists in jail of writing instruments is harsh, needless, and a deliberate attack on their right to free expression.
Omar Radi, Soulaimane Raissouni, and Taoufik Bouachrine, three journalists, are currently serving five-, six-, and fifteen-year jail terms, respectively, for sexual assault.
