The most celebrated football competition in Africa, and that which tells the undaunted talents in Africa continent, African Cup of Nation, AFCON has its race kick-started today as Cameroon National team, Indomitable Lions lock horn with the Burkina Faso National team.
It was all euphoria that the AFCON began in the presence of FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, the Cameroon President, Paul Biya, and CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, who gave the opening speech at Stade d’Olembe in Yaounde.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have won the first game at the 2021 AFCON after defeating Burkina Faso on two goals to one. Burkina Faso had taken the lead in the 24 minutes of the play, with a lovely goal from Gustavo Sangare before Vincent Abubakar’s penalty (40) made the equalizer. Abubakar leaves it late in the first half to give his team, the lead with another fine penalty (45+3).
In a game that neither seemed eager to convert all chances with the loser finishing with good possession, there were chances to register as many goals but clinical finishing from Sangare gave Burkina Faso before the two goals from Abubakar saw everything in favor of the Indomitable Lions.
The Burkina Faso national team has 11shots, 6 on target, and one converted to a goal. The Cameroonian Indomitable Lions had 60 percent possession and 14 shots, 4 on target, and 2 of which went into the back of the net. It was an interesting event in Yaounde.
The Indomitable Lions has now scored 15 goals in the last 10 games, and 6 goals in the last-five AFCON games. Claimed three-point as they began the journey to sixth AFCON titles. Cameroon would wait for three more AFCON tournaments to unmatched Egyptian’s record as the top winner of AFCON (Seven times winner).
While the Egyptian national team has maintained a winning record of the AFCON seven-time, the Cameroonians follow the lead with five AFCON trophies in their museum, Ghana with four AFCON and Nigeria with three. The Indomitable Lions appeared eager with their first winner to claim their sixth AFCON title.
