The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) in their report which was presented publicly requested for the ban of senior judges which they called ‘mercenary judges’ from holding government office for their alleged involvement in permitting former president, Yahaya Jammeh to influence the justice sector institution to strengthen his hold of power and strengthen his dictatorship
The commission (TRRC) said the government should review the law upon refusal to obey court ruling by a public official, with a view to put in a place a more stringent regime that will ensure compliance.
In addendum, The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC) also requested that the president should study the implications of the combination of the position of the attorney general and minister of justice and consider separating these two positions as it shall bring more balance to the administration and ensure efficiency in justice-making.
The Truth, Reconciliation, Reparation Committee was formed purposely to investigate and check crimes that are perpetrated by the Gambians under the regime of Jammeh from 1994 – 2017.
The decision for the commission to ask for the dismissal of these judges was a result of a three-year investigation when the commission heard testimonies from witnesses on different issues.
