According to local media, two football players were killed when they were struck by lightning during a game in Kisii county, western Kenya.

Following their injuries sustained over the weekend event, two other athletes were transported to the hospital for immediate care.

The teams were playing a friendly match, according to a football federation official, when it started to rain.

โ€œIt is tragic that they lost their lives while engaging in the activity they most cherished, gaming. Evans Akangโ€™a, the chairman of the local Football Kenya Federation, was described by the Daily Nation as saying, โ€œAs federation officials, we extend our condolences to the affected families.

In order to decrease such tragedies, the official encouraged the government to install lightning arrestors in public spaces, especially schools where matches are held.
