Following repeated violations of previous ceasefires, regional envoys announced on Tuesday that warring generals in Sudan have “in principle” agreed to a seven-day ceasefire.
The third-largest nation in Africa has been at war for more than two weeks, and as warnings of a “catastrophic” humanitarian situation grow, diplomatic efforts to put a stop to the conflict have increased.
The United Nations reported that more than 430,000 people have already been forced to leave their homes, along with hundreds of fatalities and thousands of injuries.
Since violence started on April 15, there have been numerous truces that have been agreed upon; one of these was announced by South Sudan early in the conflict.
