US President Joe Biden is set to meet with Dutch PM, Mark Rutte in what is said to be a persuasive discussion to induce the country to put export restrictions on China’s access to advanced semiconductors.
The talk which is scheduled for Tuesday will also put in place, the ongoing war in Ukraine and how to further address the aggressive nature of Russia, and also an upcoming democracy summit.
Since early last year, the US has been trying to put restrictions on Chinese access to advanced semiconductors, as they set to limit Beijing’s ability to access computing chips, develop and maintain supercomputers, and make advanced semiconductors.
The United States has accused China of using the advanced semiconductors chip to destroy humanity by using them to create the Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD), committing abuse of human rights, and also using them to improve the velocity of their military decision-making, planning, and logistics.
Amidst the controversy against China, the US will be looking to get the utmost support from her allies which necessitates the meeting with the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte.
Sequel to that, the US and South Korea also had an in-depth discussion on semiconductor restrictions to China last week, in which the two nations agree to sharpen their shared edge on economic security, which includes the protection and promotion of critical and emerging technologies.
Should the US be able to get the Netherlands on their side in the technological war, it would be a major blow to Beijing, as the Chinese remain one of the Dutch-based tech giant ASML’s biggest clients.
Wang Wenbin has called upon the Netherlands and Japan to resist the US pressure on the trade restrictions on advanced semiconductors chips.
