According to government statistics, in 2022, the war with Russia caused Ukraine to experience its most severe economic collapse in more than 30 years.
Gross domestic product (GDP) declined by 30.4 percent last year, according to preliminary figures from the economy ministry released on Thursday. Economic analysts noted that risks and uncertainty are still high, particularly if Russia continues to target the nation’s vital infrastructure.
Although the GDP decrease was smaller than anticipated, Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s minister of economy, stated it was the largest in any year since Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
