On Saturday, Ukraine and Russia asserted that hundreds of enemy soldiers had died in the battle for Bakhmut during the previous 24 hours, with Kyiv fending off relentless attacks and a tiny river slicing the town now serving as the new front line.
According to Serhiy Cherevatyi, a military spokeswoman for the Ukrainian army, 221 pro-Moscow soldiers were killed and more than 300 were injured in Bakhmut. Up to 210 Ukrainian soldiers were reportedly killed in the wider Donetsk sector of the border, according to the Russian defense ministry.
Although Russia did not provide specifics regarding Bakhmut losses, the now practically desolate eastern Donetsk town has been the scene of one of the war’s longest and bloodiest engagements.
Although it is difficult to independently confirm the precise number of casualties, all sides have acknowledged experiencing considerable losses and suffering harm in Bakhmut.
