Reservists were required to report to centers in different parts of Uganda for the short mobilization exercise which will end on February 18. The deputy Defence spokesperson, Col Deo Akiiki, gave an account of this that the reservists will be deployed in “two battle groups”.
The UPDF has called up reservists under
the age of 55 for training ahead of their deployment in the Somalia Peacekeeping Mission, Defence Spokesperson Felix Kulayigye, said in a statement yesterday.
Recall, that on May 2022 study by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), ranked Uganda as the 2nd largest contributor to peacekeeping operations worldwide.
The report shows that Uganda has 6,162 troops deployed to several missions only coming behind Ethiopia which at the time had 8,611 troops involved in peace operations.
