Since 1999, Nigeria has had three notable Governors: Obong Victor Attah (1999-2007), Godswill Akpabio (2007-2015), and Udom Emmanuel (2015-2023).
The three governors have without a doubt pushed the state forward with a number of development initiatives. Although Attah is often regarded as the state’s founding father, akpabio’s flamboyance made him a popular governor.
On the other hand, Udom concentrated on the essentials from which the ordinary man could benefit, positioning him as the governor who was destined to win his election well.
His greatest strength was his ability to avoid distractions by keeping an eye on the future. I wanted to find out what the push factor was in akwa ibom when so much is being said about development strides in the region.
The opportunity arose some 6 months ago when the Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) in Akwa Ibom state invited me to deliver the keynote address at their annual press week celebration for the year.
