An unfortunate incident was witnessed in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, as authorities within the capital reported the presence of a humongous amount of smoke around the cloud of the city, which was a result of gas explosions at an industrial building.
Tragically, the explosion led to the deaths of two people, while hundreds of others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura shared the details of the incident on Friday, explaining that it took place in Nairobi’s Embakasi neighbourhood.
According to Mwaura, the unfortunate event occurred during the company’s gas cylinder refilling process, resulting in a fire outbreak shortly before midnight. Tragically, the fire caused extensive damage to the building housing the company.
However, as the fire raged on, it quickly spread to a nearby textile and garment warehouse, causing significant destruction. Additionally, numerous vehicles, commercial establishments, and residential properties were also affected by the flames, as reported by Mwaura.
Afterwards, the fire was successfully extinguished, although the exact cause remained unknown. Wesley Kimeto, the commander overseeing the police in Embakasi, confirmed that the tragic loss of life included an adult and a minor. He further cautioned that the casualty count might increase.
