A man who has fathered at least 550 children has been prohibited from giving away any more of his sperm because he “deliberately lied” to would-be parents.
According to national regulations in the Netherlands, sperm donors are only permitted to father up to 25 offspring with 12 women.
The Hague District Court stated in a written decision that the prolific donor, who is only known as Jonathan M due to Dutch privacy laws, supplied sperm to a number of Dutch reproductive clinics, a facility in Denmark, and individuals he met through advertisements and internet forums.
According to his attorney, the client wished to assist those who would not otherwise be able to conceive.
The donor, however, “deliberately lied about this in order to persuade the parents to take him as a donor,” the judge who handled the civil case reportedly remarked.
The court said, “The fact that the youngsters in their family are part of a broad kinship network is now confronted by the parents of the children. with hundreds of half-siblings, none of whom they desired.
