Both Russia and Ukraine are major sunflower, aluminium or nickel producers in the world and they are both significant to the world in terms of supplying raw materials for industries that operate in the food sector.
Therefore, the ongoing conflict between these two countries that play significant roles in dispatching valuable products all around the world will have a protruding impact in the world economy inclusively, African countries.
Ever since the conflict between these two countries began, the world price of wheat, sunflowers and crude oils have excruciated to a new all-time high. African nations, which have been partnering with Russia for years, may be hampered with short of supplies from the Russian region.
This case is similar to Maghreb countries which depend on Russian and Ukrainian wheat with the import of these products from the countries accounting for more than 50%.
In the Sub-Saharan region, coffee, tea, or citrus fruits exports to Russia will be on decline as well.
However, the ongoing war may be an opportunity for some African countries as well. For instance, Algeria is Europe’s third gas supplier.
