According to Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal, Tesla Inc. is looking to increase the number of components it imports from India.
Goyal mentioned that he was not able to meet with Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk during his recent visit to the plant. In September, Tesla announced its plans to source components worth $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion from India this year, following $1 billion of component purchases in the previous year.
Goyal’s trip to the United States was intended to include discussions with Musk regarding Tesla’s proposed Indian factory, production of a $24,000 car in India, increased component sourcing, and the establishment of charging infrastructure throughout the country.
