Abuja’s federal high court has scheduled a date for the hearing of a complaint of contempt against the chief of army staff (coas), the attorney general of the federation (agf), and three others for unlawful detention on June 22.
After speaking with lawyers in the case, Justice Obiora Egwuatu set the date.
Suleiman Hussein Liman pleaded contempt and requested the protection of his fundamental rights, joining the Nigerian Army (NA) COAS, the Nigerian correctional service’s controller general, and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOS) as respondents.
His counsel, Hameed Jimoh, filed the lawsuit, urging the court to sentence the officials to prison for disobeying the order to free Liman.
Liman was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2014 for having ties with Boko haram. He completed the term in 2021 but was not released until after court orders.
