The Sri Lankan government had ordered the closure of schools across the country as floods and mudslides affecting the country have resulted in the death of 16 people.
The Sri Lankan education ministry announced the closure, saying schools will be left pending over the uncertainty in the weather.
The deadly flood that struck the country on Sunday has resulted in heavy damages, as the electricity supply was halted for prevention methods.
As the flooding continues, the government has ordered the evacuation of over 6,000 people to the evacuation centers with the military helping in the rescue missions.
In a remote village near the capital, 12 people were reported dead as they drowned in the flood, while the remote areas of Rathnapura, Matara, and Galle districts were destroyed by the flood on Sunday.
Over 12,000 homes have been destroyed by the flood as the country continues to grapple with the severe weather since May.
