The United States urged Iran on Thursday to cooperate with the UN’s nuclear watchdog after it reported that Tehran continues to expand its nuclear program.
The information was revealed by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, stating, “Iran must cooperate with the IAEA without further delay to fully implement its legally binding safeguards obligations.”
The statement followed a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Thursday, indicating that Iran is continuing to expand its nuclear capabilities.
The call comes just one week after the agency’s board of governors passed a resolution criticizing Tehran for its lack of cooperation.
According to Miller, the report indicated that Iran intends to expand its nuclear program “in ways that lack credible peaceful purposes.”
He further stated, “We are closely coordinating with our partners and allies and are ready to escalate pressure on Iran if its lack of cooperation with the IAEA persists.”
