The Kano police command has invited the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to a security assessment meeting. This invitation follows the Emir’s request for special security measures during the upcoming Sallah festivities.
The letter, dated June 11, 2024, was signed by Ahmed Umar Chuso, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, and addressed to the Emir’s private secretary.
Newsmen reported that the Emir, through his private secretary, had written to the state’s police commissioner requesting special security.
The request follows a prolonged dispute that has polarized the emirate after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dethroned Bayero and reinstalled the 14th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
Recall, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker RT. Hon. Jibrin Falgore on Thursday announced the dethronement of the five Emirs and the abolishment of the five Emirates during a special session.
The Assembly passed the Kano Emirates Council law (repeal bill) 2024, nullifying the previous law, and all offices established under it have been dissolved.
The law governing the Kano Emirate was amended after the deposition of the previous emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, on March 9, 2020
