North Korea’s parliament got rid of laws that allowed economic cooperation with South Korea, which has created more division between the two countries. This comes after the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, stated at the beginning of the year that peaceful reunification between the two nations was not possible.
The announcement was made on Thursday through North Korea’s official media. In the past, the laws provided a more official framework for the operation of a mountain resort and factory park located in the northern part of the border.
These projects were once considered examples of potential future cooperation between the two countries. However, due to political disagreements, both projects have been closed for several years.
South and North Korea have made efforts towards economic cooperation despite their political differences. One significant example was the Kaesong Industrial Complex, which was a joint economic venture located in North Korea.
The complex served as a symbol of cooperation between the two countries, with South Korean companies operating factories there and providing employment opportunities for North Korean workers.
However, in 2016, amid rising tensions and North Korea’s nuclear tests, South Korea decided to shut down the complex, putting a halt to economic cooperation.
