Major leaders of NATO are expected to meet in Germany Air Base on Friday as they set to discuss providing military aid to Ukraine, as disagreement ensues over who will provide battle tanks to Ukraine.
There have been dissenting opinions by major countries as Ukraine demand for tanks to battle out with Russia over its captured territory.
Germany has been facing intense pressure over her unwillingness to send Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, or give permission for other countries like Poland to deliver the German-made tanks to Ukraine.
The U.S. has also refused the idea of providing Ukraine with the latest M1 Abrams tanks, disclosing that its intensive maintenance and logistical challenges might prove too hard for the Ukrainian troops to handle.
The U.S. proposed that the German Leopard tanks would be more productive to send since many neighboring countries already have them in stock, which means, the Ukrainian troops would only need to get trained on it rather than training them on the complex Abrams.
Apart from that, the British have announced to deliver Challenger 2 tanks as part of its military aid to Ukraine.
The U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Army General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be discussing the new U.S. package of $2.5bn and other military equipment to Ukraine during the meeting.
