Mass protest rocked the city of Tunis as many differing groups came out en masse to protest the worsening economic situation in Tunisia on Saturday.
The protest had its genesis in the disastrous Parliamentary elections where only 11% of eligible voters had access to exercise their right to vote last month.
The protest was also sparked by the ongoing turmoil witnessed as a result of the economic crisis, inflation, and increasing joblessness.
The protest was also participated in by the head of National Salvation Front, a coalition of five opposition parties including the popular Islamist opposition party Ennahdha, and other tens of thousands of Tunis took part in the protest.
The Country’s Interior Minister has called upon protesters to adhere strictly to the demonstration route and avoid a clash with security forces.
Prices of food have continued to be increasing in the country, coupled with a shortage of fuels and basic staples like sugar, rice, and vegetable oil in recent months.
