With the establishment of the single treasury account, the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, has accused the federal government of obstructing the university’s autonomy in Nigeria
Ibeji Nwokoma, the president of NAAT, disclosed this when reacting to a recent remark made by Senator Chris Ngige, the minister of work and employment, that universities earn money through internally generated revenue (IGR).
Every money earned by the universities goes to the TSA, which is run by the federal government, according to the Naat president. “it’s great that the minister mentioned the university autonomy bill,” he said.
The question is, why did they introduce the TSA to the university sector? Now they say that all money earned by the universities should be paid into the government account.
