The Minister of Power, Hon Bayo Adelabu, has identified unpaid debts and low gas supply as key factors contributing to the inability of power plants to operate at full capacity.
Mr. Adelabu made these remarks during his visits to the Olorunshogo Power Plant in Papalanto and the Omotosho Power Plant in Ondo State on Wednesday.
The minister during his visit expressed satisfaction with the technology and size of the facilities and lamented about the under-utilization of these power plants.
He added that the low power generation witnessed in the country nationwide is a result of low operations at the Olorunshogo and Omotosho power plants.
According to the Minister, this is due to several factors, including the low gas supply to these facilities.
His nationwide tour is meant to evaluate and monitor the physical and operational state of the government’s power plants.
He visited these plants in person to assess how they could be improved, adding that his goal is to increase their operational capacity.
