Many Nigerians were shaken by viral videos showing Jennifer Efidi getting registered to vote for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections on Dipolubi Street in the Surulere district of Lagos with a swollen face and blood gushing down her right cheek.
Photographs of the Bayelsa State civil servant that also appeared online resembled those of a combat veteran. There was obvious pain behind the bandage straps above and below her right eye.
Efidi avoided previous general elections like the plague, just like other young Nigerians whose hopes for a nation they can be proud of were smashed by the crop of politicians whose leadership style leaves much to be desired.
She saw little value in taking part in elections whose outcomes were manipulated to represent the interests of a few rather than the preferences of millions of voters since the acts and inactions of corrupt political leaders pointed to a bleak future.
