The unwarranted political tension that has been visible in some areas of the nation ahead of the March 11 elections for governor and state houses of assembly has been called out by the Department of State Services (DSS) in a statement released by Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS’s public relations officer, on Wednesday in Abuja.
He claimed that the Services had discovered coordinated preparations by some individuals to completely destabilize the country’s law and order following the elections on March 11.
Afunanya claimed that it had been seen that some of the participants were holding knives to one another’s throats and added that the development would have disastrous effects on the country’s peace and stability.
“It is in view of these that the Service warns politicians and their supporters to engage constructively.
“Everyone is advised to shun fake news, hate speech and such other utterances that may be inimical to peaceful co-existence.
“Election should not be seen as a do or die affair. There is no basis for anyone to take laws into their hands.
“This is even more so that aggrieved persons can take advantage of our courts and seek redress. We should have faith in our institutions,” he said.
