President Muhammad Buhari has written to the senate, seeking permission for $566.8 million, £98.5 million, and n226.81 billion to pay judgment debts. Buhari’s appeal was contained in a letter read on the Senate floor by senate president ahmad lawan yesterday in Abuja.
According to him, the agreement would allow the government to pay the federal government’s judgment debt using the issue of promissory notes.
“The distinguished senate president may wish to be notified that the federal executive council, FEC, approved the liquidation of top priority judgment debts and general judgment debts owed by ministries, departments, and agencies, mdas, at its meeting on March 29, 2023,” the letter said.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning shall provide any information that may be required by the Senate for the consideration of this request.”
