Two people were reported dead after drinking tea made from the local leaf, commonly known as kami, at a wedding ceremony in Sheka, kumbotso local government area of Kano state, on the weekend.
Usman Musa Zakaria, the ward chief of the area, told journalists who toured the area yesterday.
This was in opposition to unconfirmed reports from the area that estimated the number of people who lost their lives at seven or more. Mubarak Bala, also known as Diga and Ibrahim Khalil, was named Zakari.
According to him, “It is true that the incident happened. It happened when the persons drank a tea prepared with a local leaf called Zakami and a combination of other drugs. Two persons died and eight others were hospitalized.
