The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has offered advice to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as he assumes the presidency of the nation.
NUPENG has urged him not to hastily withdraw the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol) due to its socio-economic implications.
In a statement issued by Prince Williams Akporeha and Afolabi Olawale, the President and General Secretary of NUPENG respectively, the union advised the new administration to ensure the three public refineries function optimally.
Furthermore, it should not allow the investments made in the rehabilitation of these refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna to be wasted.
Rather, concrete efforts should be made to ensure they work at full capacity to yield returns on investments, instead of relying solely on anticipatory products from the Dangote refinery.
